Established in 2011, we are a community-based organization whose sole purpose is to perpetuate the spirit of Budo by the practice of traditional martial arts.
We seek to foster positive virtues in our colleagues, friends, and community, and to cultivate a spirit upon which to build character, sincerity, integrity, perseverance, and respect, through sharing and learning with an open mind.
Shoshin: The state of shoshin is that of a beginner’s mind. It is a state of awareness that remains always fully conscious, aware, and prepared to see things for the first time. The attitude of shoshin is essential to continued learning. The name was inspired by the title of the famous Zen book, "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind", by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.
Kan: Kan is the Japanese word for house.
Hence, Shoshinkan is "the house of the beginner's mind".
We believe that everyone can benefit from the many different aspects that the martial arts have to offer.
Whether you are looking for stress relief, physical fitness, self-defense or increased self-confidence and concentration in your children, martial arts is a fantastic way to enrich your life!
We are committed to small class sizes and personalized attention ...at Shoshinkan, you're not just another face in the crowd!
